by Woody Chain
(Stuart, Florida, USA)
This is a unique opportunity to purchase 'Papa', a lightly used, USCG Documented, 1985 Nantucket Island 38 sailing yacht that has been well cared for by the previous three owners since it was new. The previous owners have recently invested over $150,000 in upgrades. She is very well equipped for cruising and is in great shape. This is not a fixer upper but a rare Classic FRP Bluewater Sailing Yacht that has been constantly upgraded and is ready to cruise. Just pack your suitcase, get onboard with some provisions and go! She shows well and is very comfortable. Currently in the water, on a canal, in a wonderful location, just a short walk from downtown Stuart, Florida. This is a great location, safe and secure, with great neighbors, in a very private 8 slip marina, with water and metered electric.
The slip location is a perfect Hurricane Hole as it is approximately 14 miles from the Atlantic coast, convenient to the Saint Lucie River, the Inter-coastal Waterway(N/S) and the Okeechobee Waterway (E/W). From this location it is a simple matter to get to either Florida Coast, the Bahamas, or the Caribbean and beyond. Excellent location and extremely hard to find rare jewel, location is everything, slip, is about as rare as the Nantucket Island 38. Perfect boat, in the perfect location for Snowbirds who live on their boat and cruise all winter, but go home in the summer.
The Peter Cole designed Nantucket Island 38' is a very rare flush deck, center cockpit, aft cabin, twin head cruiser, that has a very functional and spacious layout below in teak, which many refer to as "Floating Furniture". You will be hard pressed to find a nicer yacht, in this condition, in a better location.
The interior layout of the Nantucket Island yacht is not only exquisite but very functional. Few sailing lots in this size can match the feeling one has below deck. The high freeboard and flush deck result in good headroom throughout the interior. Upon entering, one gets the feeling that you are aboard a much larger yacht. The Nantucket Island 38 seems more spacious the most 50 sailboats. The interior space is very well thought out and comfortable. There is plenty of room for guests, as well as entertaining on board this fine yacht.
For long-distance bluewater cruising, there is nothing like an aft cabin master suite, with ample headroom and ventilation, to make the trip more enjoyable. Four, 3-speed, 12 V fans provide additional circulation, installed near each port. A Mermaid heat pump provides both cool and hot air to the aft master suite area with its own thermostat control. This allows the captain or first mate to set the temperature independently from the forward heat pump in the V berth and salon area. There is also a settee adjacent to the masters berth which provides a nice place to sit down while getting dressed, or to sprawl out in the privacy of the masters suite and enjoy a good book. The settee can also provide a berth for a child to sleep next to their parents, or a comfy place for a short nap. Storage space is abundant in the masters suite. Every square inch is utilized in this well thought out, comfortable and functional aft cabin. The galley on the Nantucket Island yacht is no exception to the rule of form following function rule which was applied throughout the spectacular sailing yacht. The galley is much larger than one would expect on a yacht in this class. C shaped, the gallery sink faces aft.
Moving forward, located amidships is the salon area, which has two settees facing each other, on either side of the vessel. A large table is located near the center of this area, which has a foldable leaf which can be extended out toward the opposite settee. The Starboard settee area comfortably seats four people easily or six in a pinch. Extending the table leaf provides the ability for three to four more people to sit at this table and enjoy a meal, by utilizing the Port settee. This is an amazing yacht, providing ample space for entertaining below deck.
