'Papa', a lightly used, USCG Documented, 1985 Nantucket Island 38 sailing yacht that has been well cared for by the previous three owners since it was new. The previous owners have recently invested over $150,000 in upgrades. She is very well equipped for cruising and is in great shape. This is not a fixer upper but a rare Classic FRP Bluewater Sailing Yacht that has been constantly upgraded and is ready to cruise. Just pack your suitcase, get onboard with some provisions and go! The Peter Cole designed Nantucket Island 38' is a very rare flush deck, center cockpit, aft cabin, twin head cruiser, that has a very functional and spacious layout below in teak, which many refer to as "Floating Furniture". You will be hard pressed to find a nicer yacht, in this condition, in a better location.
The interior layout of the Nantucket Island yacht is not only exquisite but very functional. Few sailing lots in this size can match the feeling one has below deck. The high freeboard and flush deck result in good headroom throughout the interior. Upon entering, one gets the feeling that you are aboard a much larger yacht. The Nantucket Island 38 seems more spacious the most 50 sailboats. The interior space is very well thought out and comfortable. There is plenty of room for guests, as well as entertaining on board this fine yacht.
For long-distance bluewater cruising, there is nothing like an aft cabin master suite, with ample headroom and ventilation, to make the trip more enjoyable. Four opening ports provide great crossflow ventilation as well as the ability to peer outside and see what is going on to port, starboard and aft, a large opening deck hatch allows one to look up at the stars at night, while lying in the masters berth . This hatch also allows the warmer air to escape as it is replaced by the cooler air coming in through the open ports in the hull nearest to the cooler water. Four, 3-speed, 12 V fans provide additional circulation, installed near each port. A Mermaid heat pump provides both cool and hot air to the aft master suite area with its own thermostat control. This allows the captain or first mate to set the temperature independently from the forward heat pump in the V berth and salon area. There is also a settee adjacent to the masters berth which provides a nice place to sit down while getting dressed, or to sprawl out in the privacy of the masters suite and enjoy a good book. The settee can also provide a berth for a child to sleep next to their parents, or a comfy place for a short nap. Storage space is abundant in the masters suite. Every square inch is utilized in this well thought out, comfortable and functional aft cabin. A large closet provides ample room to hang clothing which well ventilated, keeping your clothes looking wrinkle free during your shore excursions. 12 LED lights provide plenty of lighting, even inside the closets. They are dimmable and provide blue night lighting for ambience. Linens, sheets, blankets and towels are included in the sale of this vessel.
Moving forward from the master suite is a large head located adjacent to the companionway between bulkheads. Two raised panel teak doors provide privacy. One closes off the amid ship area, the other closes off the aft cabin area. This area provides plenty of space for a couple to shower together if desired. Vacuflush heads provide worry free waste extraction. A monitor tells you how much waste is in the tank. Stainless Steel handrail provides safety in rough weather and an opening porthole provides ventilation.
Moving forward from the companionway, adjacent to the master suite head, you will find the navigation station to your right. Companionway steps with SS handrails lead up to the center cockpit area amid ship. To the left is the galley area.
The galley on the Nantucket Island yacht is no exception to the rule of form following function rule which was applied throughout the spectacular sailing yacht. The galley is much larger than one would expect on a yacht in this class. C shaped, the gallery sink faces aft.
Moving forward, located amidships is the salon area, which has two settees facing each other, on either side of the vessel. A large table is located near the center of this area, which has a foldable leaf which can be extended out toward the opposite settee. The Starboard settee area comfortably seats four people easily or six in a pinch. Extending the table leaf provides the ability for three to four more people to sit at this table and enjoy a meal, by utilizing the Port settee. This is an amazing yacht, providing ample space for entertaining below deck.
The table can also be lowered providing a berth for a couple to sleep quite comfortably.
The galley on the Nantucket Island yacht is no exception to the rule of form following function rule which was applied throughout the spectacular sailing yacht. The galley is much larger than one would expect on a yacht in this class. C shaped, the gallery sink faces aft. Both the sink and faucet have been recently upgraded. The sink is black granite and very deep. The faucet is euro style with the adjustable and extendable water spray head makes cleanup a breeze. Two overhead 60 LED lights provide plenty of light to the galley area. Two additional LED white/red lights can be utilized for additional lighting or preserving night vision during offshore passage making. Additional LED lighting near the galley sink does likewise. Refrigeration is a dual Sea Frost System with separate freezer which is larger than most refrigerators. The freezer has two plates, one on each side, which keeps internal temperatures cold enough to make ice and keep ice cream! The refrigerator is also quite large and runs cold enough to freeze water next to the single plate. The freezer and the refrigeration systems are independent of each other and quite efficient running on 12 V. If one fails, the other will keep functioning, meaning you will not lose 100% of your cooling capacity, only 50%, allowing you to preserve your food supply until repairs can be made.
Counter space is ample and adequate compared to many other yachts in this class. A Force 10, three burner gimbaled propane range with large oven provides the cook with the ability to prepare fine gourmet meals. A separate induction 120 V cooktop provides further cooking abilities and a back-up if you run out of propane. An automated LPG sensor provides safety shut off in the event of an LPG/propane leak. The galley is fully equipped with pots, pans, cooking utensils, dishes, cups and silverware which are included in the sale. A Kumma LPG grill is mounted on the aft of the vessel, with dual fiberglass LPG tanks. Mr. Coffee maker, grinder, VitaBullet, and electric tea pot, are included.
Nearby is a large pantry built into the galley counter which provides ample storage for dry goods. A serving counter between the salon and the galley provides separation from the salon, as well as space to serve food. It is open and airy so the cook does not feel isolated.
On deck we use a Hood Systems Roller Furling H253.5 SeaFurls 2 for the head sails. A furling genoa with Sunbrella protector provides protection from the sun. A smaller storm sail with Sunbrella protector is also included in the head sail package. Both head sails are in very good condition and are built by Neils Pride. A new asymmetrical spinnaker with a sock is also part of the forward sail package. Mack brand fully battened with 3 reef points, main sail is new. A Mack Pack, Lazy Jack sail cradle, makes sail handling easy. A low friction VHMW Dash PE sale track and slide system allows one to raise the main sail without a winch and allows one to drop the main sail in seconds. A Sunbrella main sail cover protects the Mack Pack and main sail during storage.
Rigging has been recently inspected along with Chain Plates and are in very good condition. 4 Lewmar Self-tailing winches provide easy sale handling from the cockpit. Additional winches are installed on the mast. A new Boom Vang was installed recently. Running rigging is in good shape, winches were recently serviced.
In the bow section you will find the anchor chain locker. Ground tackle consists of Lewmar Delta fast set manganese anchor attached to 500 feet of 3/8 anchor chain. This is the primary anchor and provides excellent holding ability. The secondary anchor is a stainless steel Lewmar Claw Style with 100 feet of 3/8 chain on 500 feet of 5/8 inch anchor rope. The backup anchor is a Fortress FX 37 on 50 of chain/ 500 feet of 5/8 anchor rope. A Maxwell 1500 windlass does the lifting.
