Petrel 32 Alan Pape Designed Ocean Cruiser for Sale @ £38,000

by Ian Brooks

Blue Haven of Beaumaris, designed by Alan Pape and built by Oceancraft at Malpas in Cornwall. Launched in 1995, built from Lloyds approved steel and measuring 9.65m (32') X 2.99m (10') x 1.5m (5'). 8.95 tonnes.
Her designer has produced some of the best designs including the Ebbtide range of ocean cruiser. Her hull is of chine construction offset with a very pretty transom stern and a transom hung rudder.
She has had two previous owners and is on part one of the British register.

Very much a custom build by Oceancraft and fitted out with the input of her first owner to incorporate the highest standard of fittings and superior joinery. Her construction is immensely strong, the steel plate being 3mm on deck and coachroof, hull plating and between bilge strakes is 4mm and the sides of the keel box are 5mm with 10mm stem plate and floor plate to the ballast keel. Epoxied inside and out from new, with sprayed closed cell foam internally (apart from the bilges) to prevent corrosion, combined with plenty of ventilation from dorade vents, this has been very successful.

She is fully equipped to take you anywhere. Her two sister ships have covered thousands of ocean miles. One having completed a circumnavigation and the other in the US having crossed the Atlantic for her initial delivery trip. An insurance survey in June 2015 passed her with flying colours saying that "she had been well constructed to a successful design, she is in good structural order and of an exceptionally tidy appearance throughout. Well suited for offshore cruising".

We purchased her in 2006 and in 2007 we took part in the YM Rally Portugal. In August 2015 we left the UK for the Med, arriving in Sicily three months later. Blue Haven is now in the Ionion yard, Preveza, Greece. We have had the underwater sections grit blasted and re-epoxied, the hull sides are in the process of being re-sprayed and the cockpit, decks and coachroof have all been painted. Having looked after us very well and proved to be a safe and stable craft, much admired by fellow yachtsmen, we are reluctantly offering her for sail as we find that with our increasing number of grandchildren we need a bigger boat.

She is fully equipped and when the paint job is complete she will be ready to cruise literally anywhere; just add crew and victuals. We purchased her with a view to long term cruising and have equipped her accordingly. She has looked after us very well and with the full length keel and transom hung rudder is very well behaved. Engage the Windpilot self steering and she just keeps going. Under engine she is very economical using on average 1.5 litres an hour. The 150watt solar panel is more than enough to run the systems including the fridge.
