'Rampant', a Norseman 400 Cruising Catamaran for Sale

by Carel Van Heerden
(Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia)

'Rampant' is a comfortable 40ft cruising catamaran which I have owned for 20 years. I am the second owner, and the vessel has been well maintained and cared for with regular upgrades and improvements over the years. Built in Cape Town South Africa this vessel is designed for serious sailing and seas. With her wide beam and low profile her stability is great. When new and not loaded with the cruising gear I have reached speeds of 17.6 knots with this catamaran. Now fully loaded for cruising we sail more conservatively and still enjoy a 8- 10 knot speed in favorable conditions.

She has a fully battened main on a Harken bat-car system and a sail area of 60 square meters with 3 slab reefing points. The main sail is of 10 oz Dacron and in good condition. The Genoa is 45 square meters on a Harken roller reefing system. There is a hanked-on storm jib that fits the inner fore-stay and an Asymmetrical Spinnaker. All running rigging is in a good condition with a spare new main halyard. Both spinnaker halyards are new. The cockpit is covered with a fixed stainless steel & fiberglass Bimini, with relevant front & side covers in Sunbrella.

All winches & handles are in a good sailing condition. The vessel is set up for easy single-handed sailing if needed. Both trampolines up forward are of webbing strap design making for a safe and stable footing when under sail. The primary anchor has 100m of 10mm galvanized chain & the secondary anchor has 30m chain, and 70m anchor rode. The primary anchor is a 25 Kg Rocna anchor with a 20kg Bruce & 20 kg CQR as back up anchors.

The catamaran has a stern platform and davit set so under offshore passages the rib tender can be hoisted and lashed on the platform.
