Hooking a fish such as this can be something of an embarrassment on a sailboat, especially when you're just hoping for something to eat. I tend not to use a lure longer than 8" (200mm) in the hope that something the size of your marlin will consider it not worth the effort, but sometimes fish just don't stick to the rules.
